A Single Man

A Single Man Release Date: December 11, 2009

The movie “A Single Man” is based on the novel of the same name by homosexual author Christopher Isherwood. Set in Los Angeles in 1962, at the height of the Cuban missile crisis, it is the story of a British college professor (Colin Firth) who is struggling to find meaning to his life after the death of his long time partner. The story is a romantic tale of love interrupted, the isolation that is an inherent part of the human condition, and ultimately the importance of the seemingly smaller moments in life. The movie “A Single Man” is produced by – we know not why – former fashionista (designer) Tom Ford in association with Chris Weitz (director of “New Moon”). The screenplay was written by Tom Ford and David Scearce. Who the F knew that Tom Ford would ever get the hyphen writer-director?

Don’t confuse “A Single Man” with that other late 2009 theatrical ‘man’ movie – – from the Oscar winning Coen Brothers.

Also, the “A Single Man” poster, featuring Julianne Moore, leads one to believe that The Weinsteins want you to think that this movie is reminiscent of Julianne Moore’s other movie based 50 years ago, in which she has a gay husband, “Far From Heaven.” Don’t be fooled, as “Far From Heaven,” an Oscar nominee, is a far better movie.
