Oldboy

Oldboy Release Date: November 27, 2013

In the movie Oldboy, a remake of the 2003 South Korean film of the same name, an advertising executive is kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his punishment, only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.

Spike Lee directed this Oldboy remake and needs a hit. He hasn’t had one since, well, ever, if you’re basing a hit on the $100 million benchmark. The only movie that Spike Lee has ever directed that earned over $80 million at the box office, but under $90 million; Inside Man.

Malcolm X is Spike Lee’s second highest grossing movie. Released in 1992, Malcolm X grabbed $48 million at the box office.

Spike Lee is the black Woody Allen.

Studios miraculously keep giving him money, knowing that his movies will not make a dime at the box office.
