Child’s Play (2019) is a remake of the 1988 cult classic of the same name, in which a single mother gives her son a much sought-after doll for his birthday, only to discover that it is possessed by the soul of a serial killer.
It is unlikely that Oscar nominee Brad Dourif returns to (One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) lend his voice to the iconic doll character. In the remake, the doll’s name is Buddi, not Chucky.
The original Child’s Play movie spawned countless sequels, spin-offs and even a TV show featuring the demonic doll.
Catherine Hicks (7th Heaven) and Chris Sarandon (first husband of Oscar winner Susan Sarandon) costarred in the 1988 film.
In this 2019 Child’s Play remake, Aubrey Plaza stars as mother, Karen Barcly. Gabriel Bateman stars as her son, Andy. And Brian Tyree Henry plays detective Mike Mike Norris. The film’s director, Lars Klevberg, has only one other film under his belt, the still unreleased Polaroid, which is tied up in The Weinstein Co. fiasco.
